A little quiz for my readers: True or False - 50% of the population is below average when it comes to having a grasp of statistics.

Any quantitative measure of "grasp of statistics" would naturally have an asymmetric, or skew-right distribution, with the bulk of the population on the low end, and a smaller proportion of geeks like me in a tail to the right. If you balance the lower 50% (which have limited room to be below the "average") with the higher 50% (which have un-, or at least less-limited range), you will find that, your statement, which is equivalent to saying "the median grasp of statistics is below the average", is certainly true.

It's all thin air.
